why we need your support

Roses in the Ocean was founded in 2011. We relied completely on a volunteer workforce and the generous donations of people throughout the country and those attending our annual fundraising events. In January 2018, we were provided with infrastructure funding from the Commonwealth Department of Health, through the National Suicide Prevention Leadership and Support Program. This has enabled our organisation to employ some key staff. To fulfil our national role as the lead Lived Experience of suicide organisation in Australia, we are largely dependent on donations and our ability to generate fee for service work.

We need your support and we appreciate every dollar!

our philosophy regarding donated funds

Roses in the Ocean remains true to our grassroots. We exist to save lives and reduce emotional pain and distress. We are committed to ensuring that 100% of funds donated to us are used to deliver our services back into the community, and wherever possible, back into the communities that provided the funds. All donations are used to build the capacity of people with a lived experience of suicide so they can play an active role in suicide prevention within their local communities; co-designing safe spaces and other services needed by people with lived experience of suicide, and supporting them through peer support .

our public gift fund

Roses in the Ocean Ltd is a Registered Gift Recipient with the Australian Tax Office. Roses in the Ocean Ltd has a public fund which is set up to enable the organisation to accept tax deductible donations. The Institution and the public fund are listed on the Register of Harm Prevention Charities under Subdivision 30-EA of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997.

In order to comply with the Guidelines for the Register, Roses in the Ocean Ltd has a public fund committee comprised of a majority of people holding public office or certain positions in the community. This committee ensures that funds are used appropriately and gives approval for funds to be transferred out of the public fund account.

A donation of over $2.00 made to the Roses in the Ocean Public Fund is tax deductible for the donor. Roses in the Ocean Ltd will send the donor a tax receipt

listing the amount of the donation. The donor can then list this donation on their tax return for the year that the donation was made to receive a reduction in the amount of tax to be paid in that year.
