Voices of In-Sight – speakers training

“Voices of In-Sight”

Roses in the Ocean operates a Suicide Prevention Speakers Hub for people with a lived experience of suicide.

We define lived experience as . . . …having experienced suicidal thoughts, survived a suicide attempt, cared for someone who has been suicidal, or been bereaved by suicide.

The “Voices of In-Sight” Speakers Hub delivers professional speakers training to volunteers with a lived experience of suicide.  The program has been designed by people with lived experience who truly understand what it means to explore in depth our personal stories, and how to assist people find the key messages and learnings that can help others.

Our Speakers, through their stories and experience, provide valuable insights into suicide and suicide prevention, and deliver practical preventative information to their audiences.

Our Facilitators have a personal lived experience of suicide, as do our Mentors who support our Speakers after the program.

The Speakers Hub operates in all States and Territories. All speakers have a lived experience of suicide and receive comprehensive training through a 2 day training program (and a social dinner the night before training starts) and will receive ongoing support for speaking engagements and personal development.

Following the program, participants work with their Mentor to refine their story and to prepare to present it to a ‘friendly’ audience of family and/or friends.  Once this initial presentation has taken place and been debriefed with their Mentor,  a Speakers Resource Kit is provided to each speaker to support them engage with their local community and identify opportunities to share their story.

Speakers will present in a wide range of locations, including social sector organisations and corporate workplaces across all industries. Organisations request a speaker at any time of the year and the peak times include September, for World Suicide Prevention Day (10 September) and World Mental Health Month (October).
