Postcard from Brisbane Pride Fair Day
We were honoured to attend Brisbane Pride Fair Day for the third year in a row and what a day it was! We could feel an electric vibe from the moment we stepped foot in New Farm Park… the people, the music, the smiles, and all before the gates opened.
Mark and I set up the Roses in the Ocean pop-up stand under the Brisbane sun and got ready to start talking to the incoming crowd. Kathy and Julie from the Brisbane office joined us for the afternoon, just as things got busy!
The stars of the day, as they often are, were our magnetic, fragrant roses which we were giving away. People from all around came to stop and smell the roses, grab a selfie pic in our giant Instagram frame, and have a chat. We spoke with many people throughout the day, and had meaningful conversations with young and old; so many people spoke of their own lived experience of suicide as a member of the LGBTIQA+ Community and of their passion to use their voices to make a difference.
Before we knew it the sun was lowering in the sky, and as we left we saw a sea of fresh roses held by people walking out of the park, and Brisbane Pride Fair Day came to a close for 2020.
