About the Peer CARE Companion in Community Project

‘Peer CARE Companion in Community’ provides a ‘golden thread’ of trained and supported community members with lived experience of suicide known as Peer CARE Companions. The volunteer-based service strengthens the existing network of suicide prevention services including aftercare, postvention and safe spaces, and address service and support gaps in community by providing ‘light touch’ peer support and connection.

About the role

This newly created, full time opportunity will be responsible for identifying and developing relationships across a range of community or local organisations that support the implementation and service delivery of Peer CARE Companion in Community (PCCiC) in Queensland.

Working alongside the Peer CARE Companion team, this role will contribute to a range of process improvement and engagement initiatives, and will represent Roses in the Ocean at a range of Queensland stakeholder meetings and community events, with the aim to increase stakeholder awareness of our Peer-led services.

There is a requirement to work flexible times including some evenings and weekends (time in lieu arrangements negotiable). This role is located in Queensland, you can be located anywhere within the state as it is a work from home role, with the option to work from our Brisbane office if you’re located within the area. There will be a requirement for some intrastate travel.

Some essentials:

  • A lived experience of suicide and an understanding of the impact suicide has on families, workplaces, friends, and communities.
  • Previous experience in stakeholder engagement and partnership development.
  • Experience in managing competing priorities, complex tasks and coordinating activities.
  • High-level written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate and liaise effectively and sensitively at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated capacity to maintain confidentiality and professional standards of behaviour in difficult and sensitive circumstances.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
