Joining a lived experience advisory/action group, taskforce or network is often a very new experience for people and one which may feel daunting. Taking on the responsibility of co-chairing the group is yet another challenge. This Skills Development Series strives to support lived experience group co-chairs to effectively engage the group; maintain momentum; and successfully work closely with their local/regional organisational lead representatives (e.g., PHN, LHD, etc.). We encourage lived experience groups to choose two co-chairs, who assume the responsibility of providing leadership and secretarial support for the group for a 6 – 12-month period.
The Lived Experience Co-Chair Skills Development Series provides 6 sessions over a 6-month period each 1.5 hours in duration. To ensure maximum benefit and engagement, each session is limited to 10 participants. The first hour of each session focuses on supporting co-chairs through developing the skills required to lead the group and implement their action plan. The last half hour of each session enables topical group discussion and coaching.
