Defence Community Lived Experience Definition

Roses in the Ocean, in partnership with Operation COMPASS, a national project based at The Oasis Townsville, is seeking to facilitate the development of a lived experience of service definition and statement unique to the experience of the defence community.

The definition will be community led and co-designed by serving and ex-serving members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and their families.

This co-design builds on the findings of a Defence consultation to develop a Defence Lived Experience Framework led by Roses in the Ocean in 2019. This report has been central to the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicides.

The resulting working definition and statement will be incorporated into a toolkit currently being developed by The Oasis Townsville to support additional Veteran Wellbeing Hubs being established around Australia. The Toolkit is expected to be released in the third week of November 2022.

The outcomes of this co-design will also support suicide prevention activities and lived experience engagement across the defence community.
